Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or commonly known as Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, Kathiawar, India. Gandhi became the preeminent leader politically and ideologically in India during the independence movement in India. He pioneered the belief in the resistance to tyranny through mass civil disobedience, based on total non violence. His concept helped India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom around the world.

After Gandhi return to India in 1915, was devoted to the organization of peasants, farmers and urban workers protesting excessive land-tax and discrimination.
